Scouting answers

Start with what the evidence supports. Keep everything else visible as a question.

Can a virtual scout replace a physical recce?

Not for decisions requiring current access, safety assessment or physical verification. It can prioritise locations and make an in-person visit more focused.

Use the remote planning guide to identify what the next visit must establish.

Is a detailed scan automatically accurate?

No. Texture detail and dimensional accuracy are different. Check capture methods, units, coverage and independent measurements.

A clean reconstruction may include filled gaps or idealised surfaces. Test working scale before relying on it.

Which preview format should a small production use?

Choose the simplest format that answers the decision. Stills and a plan may be enough for a shortlist; measured geometry can support provisional blocking.

Keep a low-bandwidth alternative so collaborators are not excluded by hardware or connection requirements.

Can a sun simulation establish the lighting plan?

It can test a hypothesis with correct location, orientation, date and time. Weather, glazing, obstructions and practical fixtures still require verification.

Label rendered brightness as illustrative unless its basis is documented. See the lighting checks.

Does access to a digital model include filming permission?

No. Asset rights, property consent and public filming permissions are separate. Confirm each with the responsible party.

A public download is not an invitation to enter a property, operate a drone or redistribute someone else’s source assets.

What camera information belongs in a preview?

Record position, height, orientation, focal length, active sensor area or filmback, aspect ratio and any relevant lens or crop assumptions.

Include a stable view ID so other departments can identify the same proposal. See view records.

Can remote images establish safe rigging or power?

No. Images can identify questions, but qualified personnel must assess the proposed rigging, loads and electrical arrangements.

Do not infer a structure’s capacity, a circuit’s suitability or emergency access from a digital preview.

How should a remote review handle unanswered questions?

Record the question, required evidence, responsible role, target date and effect on the production decision. Keep assumptions separate from observations.

An issue remains open until the appropriate evidence and authority support closing it. A meeting comment is not automatically approval.

What should a scouting handoff contain?

Include a decision summary, source and capture dates, model units, stable view IDs, camera settings, restrictions, revision information and an issue register.

Provide a readable summary outside the interactive scene. Follow the handoff guide for a practical structure.

Does the location-note tool send or store my draft?

No. The tool builds plain text in your current browser page. Copy and Save text are user-initiated actions. Drafts are not uploaded or saved by the site.

Reloading can discard your work. Your browser may offer its own form restoration. Review sensitive details before copying, downloading or emailing them.

Found a claim that needs correcting? Send a location note with the page, the issue and a primary source where possible.
